In 1916 Ireland, young Aiden McGilles is recruited by British soldiers to fight in World War I. Confronted by the horrors of war, he realizes he may never return home. Injured in a bomb crater, he meets a German soldier, Franz v. Letten, who offers Aiden a chance to escape, leading to a perilous journey.
