Caldersn de la Barca P

Pedro Calderón de la Barca was a dramatist of the Spanish Golden Age. His plays polished and perfected the dramatic forms and genres pioneered by his predecessor, Lope de Vega. While Lope's strength lay in spontaneity and naturalness, Calderón's excelled in poetic beauty, dramatic structure, and philosophical depth. A perfectionist, Calderón frequently revised his works, demonstrating an inexhaustible capacity for innovation, particularly within the "auto sacramental" genre, where he breathed new dramatic life into theological constructs.
