      The majority of contributions published in this edition cover the problem of organization and management in the Republic of Slovenia, prior to or after joining the EU. Some contributions come from foreign practice. Therefore, the most important aspects of the Slovenian transition period, starting in the 1990s after the disintegration of Yugoslavia, have been covered scientifically. The majority of contributions deal with specific aspects of the transition period on the basis of concrete research carried out in that period by individuals and research groups. Most of the research work was performed in the last few years, meaning that the results obtained are all the more significant not only for Slovenia, but for all the countries that have come into existence on the territory of former Yugoslavia, and for their neighbours.

      Die Forderung nach lebenslangem Lernen bezieht sich auf alle Phasen des menschlichen Lebens, von denen jede einzelne spezifische Chancen der Erziehung und Bildung bietet, in jeder besondere Inhalte und Interessen des Lernens favorisiert werden. In diesem Werk sollen Antworten auf die Frage gegeben werden, wie sich lebenslanges Lernen in Zukunft weiter entwickeln kann. Dabei werden Rückfragen an die Erfahrungen der Entwicklung in Vergangenheit und Gegenwart unumgänglich. Zu fragen ist auch nach nationalen und regional bedingten Unterschieden in der Entwicklung der Bildungssysteme, zugleich auch nach deren Vereinheitlichung in den Industriestaaten. The demand for lifelong learning refers to all periods of human life, as each period offers special prospects of education and development and in each period particular subjects and contents of learning are favoured above another. This book shall help in finding answers to the question how to develop and innovate lifelong learning in the future. Inevitably, such an attempt is linked with a debate on the experiences of the development in past and presence. Regional and national differences in the development of educational systems as well as their unification in the industrial countries need to be discussed.
