Geomorphic Processes In Environments with Strong Seasonal Contrasts

More about the book

This volume consists of eleven papers organized by spatial and temporal scales. The first four focus on erosion and sediment transport in badland catchments. Romero-Diaz et al. and Bryan et al. investigate short-term erosion rates in southeast Spain and Canada/Kenya, respectively. Clotet-Perernau et al. compare short and medium-term timescales in the Spanish Pyrenees, while Gutierrez et al. analyze the impact of piping on badland morphology in northern Spain's Ebro Basin. The next two papers explore geomorphic responses to meteorological events, with Suwa & Okuda examining process-seasonality in Japan and Gallart & Clotet-Perernau addressing responses to extreme rainfall in the Spanish Pyrenees. The subsequent three papers investigate the connections between sediment source areas and depositional sites. Ergenzinger looks at sediment production, transport, and erosion rates in Calabria, while Sorriso-Valvo and Harvey also focus on alluvial fans in Calabria and southeast Spain, respectively. Sancho et al. discuss long-term slope development in the Ebro Basin, and Conacher assesses the relevance of short-term process measurements for understanding long-term landform development in Western Australia. Notably, several papers presented at the meeting are not included here and are being prepared for publication elsewhere, including works by GUPTA on channel morphology in India, Segura on stepped channels in Spain, and Bordas on Therm
