Towards the solid protein surface
Authors
More about the book
Applications like semi-biological energy conversion systems try to combine classical solid-state technology with the exclusive advantages of biological catalysts. They unite two initially incompatible worlds - neither are protein-biocatalysts evolutionary optimized for contact to solids, nor is typical solid state technology designed for the liquid environment of proteins. If they come into contact, effective concepts for a better compatibility are needed. The „solid protein surface“ works towards this goal via a biomimetic approach, where the surface chemistry of the solid is adjusted to mimic the surface of a protein - to make the biocatalyst perform like in its natural environment.
