More about the book
The investigation focuses on the socio-economic benefits of ecotourism integration in two Peruvian communities, Taquile Island and Chiquian. Through surveys and interviews, it reveals that Taquile Island, with higher local participation in ecotourism, experiences more significant benefits, particularly in equitable decision-making and income sharing. However, both communities face high revenue leakages. The study identifies three critical factors for successful integration: awareness, unity, and control, concluding with a practical model for enhancing community-based tourism initiatives.
