French views of German literature 1919 - 1930

More about the book
An investigation of some widely read «general interest» journals in France reveals a reception of German literature ranging from «ressentiment» to scholarly interest. The critical attitudes of French commentators implied, primarily, certain fundamental political and social convictions and, secondarily, esthetic judgments toward German literary culture. This reception study of German literature in France is, therefore, also an examination of French views of «la civilisation française» itself.
