More about the book

The international conference on current trends in the theory and practice of informatics, SOFSEM 2000, took place from 25 November to 2 December 2000 at the Devět Skal Hotel in the Czech-Moravian Highlands, Czech Republic. This marked the 27th annual meeting in the SOFSEM series, which has been held in the Czech or Slovak Republic since its inception in 1974. Over the years, SOFSEM has evolved alongside the field of informatics, becoming a multidisciplinary conference that emphasizes the connection between theory and practice. The scientific program primarily features invited talks that shape the conference's focus, complemented by short refereed talks from participants. For 2000, three key streams were selected: Trends in Algorithmics, Information Technologies in Practice, and Computational Perception. The conference included 16 invited talks by leading researchers and 18 contributed talks selected from 36 submissions by the international Program Committee. Additionally, a panel discussion addressed lessons learned from the Y2K problem, enhancing the conference's relevance to contemporary issues in informatics.
