Is it possible to discuss the non-existence of concepts like "Europe," "Woman," or "Digital Medium," and does this lead to new perspectives and policies? The project do not exist aims to explore this idea through various outcomes, including the do not exist conference on Europe, Woman, and Digital Medium (Bremen 2006) and two exhibitions: [open] spaces, states of political and media space (Bremen 2007) and eastwest se/x (Cologne 2007). Contributors include a diverse group of artists and scholars such as Susanne Bauer, Ulrike Bergermann, and Marina Grzinic, among others. Despite the rich landscape of gender studies and media art, there has yet to be a concerted effort to bring these concepts into dialogue and confrontation. This project seeks to undertake that challenge, fully acknowledging a female perspective and embracing the inherent paradox of questioning the non-existence of woman from a female viewpoint. By engaging with these themes, the project aims to create a space for critical reflection and innovative policy development.
