More about the book

This is the album of the Blockade of Leningrad (St. Petersburg), of unheard-of sufferings of millions of citizens, of the most severe siege in the world's history. This is the story of the heroic city in the most horrible years of its 300 year history. The photo chronicle of the siege became possible thanks to the hard work of photographers in Leningrad during the war. I knew most of them personally. Rafail Mazalev gave me a start into my career as a photojournalist. I used to meet with David Trachtenberg, organized broadcasts on TV devoted to Georgiy Konovalov and Leonid Korovin. I'm honored to have been a friend of Vsevolod Tarasevich. Alexander Brodsky used to be my colleague in the photo section of the Union of journalists in Leningrad. I knew Lossin, Utkin, Handogin, Fedoseyev. Of Vasiliy Fedoseyev I've been writing a lot and regret that I did not have a chance of knowing him better. All of them have contributed into compiling a photo chronicle of the Blockade. And all of them - alas - are not with us any more... It is them that I dedicate this work to.
