More about the book
Caerphilly Castle is widely regarded as one of the great castles of medieval western Europe. Its massive walls and towers were combined with sprawling water defences, creating a fortress not just of enormous strength, but also one that would serve as a potent symbol of lordship and power.Caerphilly is of further interest as an early example of the concentric (walls-within-walls) principle of defence. Several of its features were subsequently adopted in the great castles built by King Edward I (1272–1307) in north Wales.
