More about the book
This catalog presents around 100 artworks from Uli Sigg's extensive collection of contemporary Chinese art. It features contributions such as an introduction by Kathleen Bühler, discussions on global art from China, and the complexities of tradition in the modern context. The exhibition explores themes like the balance between consumerism and spirituality, as well as the evolution of Chinese art in the post-Olympics era, with insights from Pi Li. Carol Yinghua Lu addresses the shift from the fear of international involvement to the process of de-internationalization. Uli Sigg shares his perspective on art as a form of mental vacation in a conversation with Bühler and others. Organized by Kunstmuseum Bern and Zentrum Paul Klee, in collaboration with M+ West Kowloon Cultural District and Uli Sigg, the exhibition took place from February 19 to June 19, 2016, at Kunstmuseum Bern and from January 18 to April 16, 2017, at MAK Vienna. The catalog includes bibliographical references and features parallel texts in German and English.
