More about the book

ESP (English for specific purposes) is an enterprise involving education, training and practice. This book is aimed at teachers or would-be teachers of ESP. It provides training in the describing of language, teaching the language and designing specific language courses by assessing needs analysis. The book reviews the developments in ESP in the 1980s. It works through the process of ESP course design, reviewing the procedures which ESP practitioners employ at each stage. Needs analysis is considered first and then approaches to the analysis of language. The ESP syllabus is considered next, and then testing is examined. This is followed by some observations on the role of the teacher. Finally, courses for business English and academic English are reviewed.
