Als Gerhard Höllerich kam er 1943 zur Welt, als „Roy Black“ schrieb er Schlagergeschichte. Erstmals öffentlich sang Höllerich im Fasching 1963 in der Band The Honky Tonks. Mit dem Lied Ganz in Weiß wurde Black im Frühjahr 1966 schließlich zum Schlager-Star in Deutschland.
