Born in Venice, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo rose to become one of the most important artists of the 18th century. He found great clients not only in Italy, but also in Würzburg. His frescoes in the Würzburg Residenz, which congenially integrate the architecture and have lost none of their radiance to this day, are regarded as his main work.
