More about the book
This empirical study explores how Egyptians and Americans approach the speech act of correction in various contexts. By using a Discourse Completion Task with 60 participants, the research examines the modification of correction strategies, focusing on mitigation and aggravation in different social settings, such as classrooms and restaurants. Findings reveal that both cultures tend to employ mitigation more in higher status interactions compared to lower status ones, highlighting cultural nuances in communication styles related to social hierarchy.
