This First Certificate course uses a variety of contemporary texts to motivate students. Key vocabulary is highlighted in exercises at the beginning of each unit, enabling students to carry out reading, writing and speaking tasks more effectively and confidently; grammar practice is found in a grammar notes section which provides explanations on areas that students find problematic. Four progress tests provide useful exam practice and revision of the preceding units. Additionally, there are a variety of regular and motivating discussion-based activities designed to encourage students to develop confidence and fluency in their oral skills. A workbook (available with and without a key) contains reading texts and further practice of the grammar and vocabulary in the students' book, presented in the style of the FCE exam.
