More about the book
The novel is set during the Vietnam War at a U.S. airport in Thailand. An American officer develops a new system for detecting the movements of Viet Cong guerrillas, consisting of sound detectors disguised as tropical flowers to be placed in the Vietnamese jungle. These flowers allow for guiding airstrikes by U.S. bombers on the human sources of noise, as their position can also be detected via radio. A Vietnamese spy, specifically a beautiful girl, is present within the airfield from which the system is managed, and ultimately places some of the detectors inside the commander's room, leading to a devastating strike on the airfield itself.
