The Civic Museum of Castelvecchio in Verona, one of the richest and most important museum institutions in Italy, is located in the imposing medieval fortress of Castelvecchio, built between 1354 and 1356 under the direction of Cangrande II della Scala. It was restored with modern criteria in 1957 by Carlo Scarpa, considered one of the greatest architects of the twentieth century. This guide is dedicated to the history of the museum and the interventions carried out by Scarpa, both in terms of the restoration of the complex and the museum layout: a journey that leads the reader inside the castle, through the gardens and the Courtyard of Arms, to the Keep and the Scaliger Palace, then to the Clock Tower, the walkways, and the hanging garden, up to the internal galleries.
