This book demonstrates the link between 19th-century history and 19th-century art in Hungary. It is a history of the different tendencies of 19th-century Hungarian art and the creation of an independent, specifically Hungarian world of painting, influenced historically and intellectually by Vienna and Munich and later Paris.
