In 1984, following a suggestion from artist Ce sar, Alain Dominique Perrin, then President of Cartier International, established an arts foundation, leading to the creation of the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, which is now celebrating its thirtieth anniversary. This foundation is dedicated to promoting contemporary art and making it accessible to the public, serving as a hub for artistic creation and contemporary thought. In 1994, the foundation relocated from the Montcel estate in Jouy-en-Josas to a striking glass and steel building in Paris designed by Jean Nouvel. The architecture aims to blur the lines of the structure, creating a sense of indistinctness and evanescence. To commemorate its thirtieth anniversary, the Fondation Cartier is releasing a lavishly illustrated book that captures its unique identity, closely tied to Nouvel's design. The book includes interviews with key figures in the foundation's history and showcases thirty years of exhibitions and significant events.
