Preceded by a short survey on antisemitism in Switzerland from the Middle Ages until 1900, focuses on the history of Jews in this country from the beginning of the 20th century until 1930. Surveys discriminatory legislation, such as prohibition of ritual slaughter, and restrictions on residence and trade. Discusses latent antisemitism amongst the population, incited sometimes by the local press; stereotypical negative expressions in conversation; Jew-hatred due to commercial competition; and lists Swiss organizations with anti-Jewish tendencies, among them student associations. Recalls antisemitism in intellectual circles, in the literary revue "Der Samstag", and in Swiss literature. Mentions resistance to antisemitism by the Swiss Jewish press and by some philosemitic writers. Although antisemitism was less visible in Switzerland than in other countries, it existed with all its manifestations.
