Professor at the Graduate School of Design, University of Zagreb, Fedja Vukić undertakes an investigative journey through the theory and criticism surrounding industrial production in the context of the mass market. Starting from the notions of design history in the United Kingdom and design studies in the United States since the mid-1980s onwards, he argues that these are an important component of a much broader history of industrialisation. In doing so, Vukić proposes that, in the Croatian context, this history could be differentiated by distinguishing the terms “form-giving” and “design” – in short, aestheticism in production versus the environment of production.
