More about the book
Kader Attias much-lauded piece, The Repair from Occident to Extra-Occidental Cultures, was one of the central works of dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel. In its entirety, the work constitutes a museum of cultural exchange between the African continent and the former colonial powers of Europe, from well-known references to traditional African sculpture in Modernist art to the jewellery that African artisans create from such things as cartridge cases. The interplay of these objects results in a complex picture of reciprocal influence between colonial and post-colonial cultures. Besides numerous images, the book includes text contributions by Chus Martinez, Jacinto Lageira and Manthia Diawara.
