More about the book

The first edition of this work, published in 1981, quickly became a key resource on Tibetan Medicine in English. A revised second edition followed in 1995, reflecting growing interest in the field. By 1996, the need for a third edition was recognized, leading to an expansion and revision project initiated by the Director of Men-Tsee-Khang. Although work began in 1997, it was completed with the support of both the former Director, Mr. Tsering Tashi, and the current Director, Mr. Pema Dadhul Arya. This third edition features significant alterations, additions, and deletions from the previous version. Part One is now divided into four chapters, with a new introductory section on the history of Tibetan Medicine. We aimed to simplify complex material from the rGyudbZhi and its commentary, Vaidurya sNgon-po, while preserving essential points, though some errors may have occurred. To enhance clarity, we've condensed some information into tables and updated photos from the last edition. Additionally, a pronunciation guide for Tibetan medical terms has been included. Our hope is that this book serves as a beneficial resource for readers, contributing to their health and well-being. Dr. Lobsang Tsultrim and Dr. Tenzin Dakpa.
