To effectively plan for and manage the uncertainties brought about by future climate change, the water profession must advance its knowledge significantly beyond current levels. This endeavor requires not only improvements in climatological-hydrologic models but also the formulation of adaptation policies and mitigation strategies based on anticipated impacts. These strategies must be regularly updated and implemented in response to evolving needs and the availability of more reliable data. The political landscape surrounding policy-making and implementation presents an additional challenge, necessitating a significant transformation from existing processes. Alongside the development of more accurate models, navigating the politics of climate change and water management is one of the greatest uncertainties facing the water profession. This work explores how water management practices can be adapted to address climatic uncertainties over the next few decades, outlining potential strategies and best practices needed to tackle current and anticipated challenges.
