The Berliner Staatsoper Unter den Linden underwent extensive renovations over seven years, transforming the city's oldest theatre into a modern venue. This complex project aimed to make it "one of the most modern theatres in Europe, if not the world," according to artistic director Jürgen Flimm. During the renovations, the Staatsoper performed at the Schiller Theater in Charlottenburg. The two-volume book 'Staatsoper Berlin 2010-2017' is published on the opening day of the renovated Staatsoper, 3 October 2017, documenting the opera company's experiences at the Schiller Theater and the renovation process. The first volume, 'Die Staatsoper im Schiller Theater', chronicles the company's activities from 2010 to 2017, highlighting over 100 new works, 550 concerts, and around 2,500 events. The repertoire spanned from Baroque to contemporary pieces, showcasing the theatre as a "first-class temporary venue" that inspired artists with its 1950s charm and modern spirit. The second volume, 'Die Staatsoper Unter den Linden', focuses on the significant renovation of the historically and culturally important theatre, originally built in the Prussian neoclassical style in 1742. This restoration represents the most extensive work done on the building to date, ensuring its legacy for future generations.
