More about the book

For the last twenty-four years the 34 year-old photographer Helge Tscharn has contributed regularly to skateboard and music magazines. Tscharn himself is a European-ranked skater, and his knowledge of the sport allows him to take particularly dramatic and impressive photographs of such skating celebrities as Tony Hawk and Mike McGill performing breathtaking stunts. Beginning in the early 1990's, Tscharn brought the dynamism of his skateboarding photography to the world of music journalism-quick shots of such figures as Sonic Youth, Aphex Twin, Pizzicato Five, Henry Rollins, and Metallica caught them in the tilted rawness of backstage areas, as opposed to the usual stylized settings. All of Tscharn's major work is presented in this catalogue which documents one of the world's best photographers of subcultural movements.
