In a few short years, I will have completed six decades in public service - 60 years of engaging with people, governing with purpose and navigating the politics of life. Those years have flown by, swift and unrelenting, marked by both challenges and achievements. In that time, I have overcome crises, experienced joys, endured sorrows and encountered moments I could never have anticipated. Along the way, I have gained treasured friends and, as success rarely comes without a price, I have earned some adversaries. I have bid farewell to those dearest to me. The absence of my mother, my father and two of my brothers remains etched on my heart. Yet I have been richly blessed with a loving family, wonderful children, devoted citizens and people from around the world have embraced our hopes and aspirations as their own. Above all, I have had the honour of helping to build a nation that now stands as a beacon of prosperity and is admired far and wide. What, then, has life taught me?
