More about the book
Professor Stephen Hawking, a highly respected scientist and renowned author, is celebrated not only for his groundbreaking contributions to physics but also for his remarkable resilience in the face of motor neurone disease. In 2016, a unique gathering took place on Tenerife and La Palma in the Canary Islands, where seven Nobel laureates and a diverse group of scientists, musicians, and astronauts came together to honor his extraordinary life at the Starmus festival. The event featured music from some of the greatest rock musicians of our time, creating a vibrant atmosphere for reflection and celebration. This collection includes 26 talks from the festival's speakers, each dedicated to Hawking, exploring themes from the origins of the Universe at the Big Bang to the evolution of life, human creativity, environmental stewardship, and the future of humanity. The opening chapter, penned by Hawking himself, offers a humorous and insightful glimpse into his life, titled A Brief History of Mine. No mathematical background is necessary to engage with this captivating overview of contemporary science and our place in the cosmos, but readers should be ready for an imaginative journey that stretches the limits of understanding.
