John Wesley Powell

    John Wesley Powell was a US soldier, geologist, and explorer of the American West, most famously known for his 1869 expedition. This three-month river journey down the Green and Colorado Rivers included the first passage through the Grand Canyon. His extensive scientific and ethnological work shaped our understanding of the American West.
