Jacob Sturm was a leading German engraver of scientific publications focusing on entomology and botany at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. His works were characterized by exceptional accuracy, meticulous detail, and aesthetic appeal, earning them immense popularity among naturalists. Sturm deliberately chose a smaller format for his works to make knowledge of nature accessible to a wider audience as affordably as possible. He was also an avid insect collector and founder of the Nuremberg Society for Natural History.
