The work analyses the approach taken by Bolero Int. Ltd. in replacing a classic transport document, the bill of lading, by an electronic equivalent. To do so, the Bolero system, its rules, German and English Law are compared in relation to the bill's three functions - receipt for the goods, evidence of the contract of carriage and document of title; as is the evidential value of electronic records
