Felix Philipp Kanitz

    August 2, 1829 – January 8, 1904

This author is regarded as one of the first profound ethnographers of the South Slavs. His extensive research into regions such as Dalmatia, Herzegovina, Bosnia, Montenegro, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Macedonia began in the mid-19th century and spanned several decades. The knowledge he gathered during his travels is valued for its importance to the period. Beyond his ethnographic works, he was also a skilled painter and draftsman, capturing life in the Balkans through black and white drawings, leaving a valuable visual record.
