Intercultural and cross-cultural mediation in the Western world has emerged as an object of research that has attracted a growing attention over the past thirty years. Meanwhile, static and essentialist notions of culture in communication have been challenged by dynamic and constructivist approaches taking culture as a flux that is changing permanently. Konzepte interkultureller Mediation erfahren im Bereich der Forschung und der Didaktik zu interkultureller Kommunikation und interkultureller Kompetenz zunehmende Beachtung als konstruktive Interaktionsformen im interkulturellen Kontakt. Der Grundgedanke interkultureller Mediation umfasst dabei die unterschiedlichsten Formen interkultureller Verständigung, die durch dritte Personen oder Institutionen unterstützt werden. Dieser Band versammelt erstmals Beschreibungen und Analysen konkreter Formen und Orte triadischer interkultureller Verständigung am Beispiel von Kontaktsituationen in Grenzregionen.
