David Zeisberger

David Zeisberger was a dedicated linguist and missionary among Native American communities. He focused on meticulously documenting Indigenous languages, mastering dialects of Delaware (Lenape) as well as Mohawk and others. His scholarly pursuits resulted in comprehensive dictionaries, grammars, and religious texts translated into native tongues, offering invaluable insights into the linguistic and spiritual lives of these peoples. Though he founded several communities for converted Indigenous individuals, these settlements were often caught in the crossfire of external conflicts, facing suspicion and tragedy.
