Theodor Körner Books
September 23, 1791 – August 26, 1813
Carl Theodor Körner was a German poet and soldier whose patriotic verses inspired the German uprising against Napoleon. While his early work in Vienna included light comedies for the theatre, his wartime experiences fueled his fiery patriotic lyrics. Often called the "German Tyrtaeus," Körner displayed personal courage in battle, rousing his comrades with his stirring poems, some of which were set to music. His work is characterized by a deep sense of nationalistic fervor and determination during a time of struggle.
