In reading all the theoretical contributions to this book, an essentially common idea of the social can be observed which is of fundamental importance for a new definition of artistic a process-related order of institutionalized actions, including the linguistic actions to which individuals are exposed. For here, in the repetition of such institutionalized acts, is where subjects first emerge at all. Objects, whether they be objects of everyday use or whole architectures, are like moulds which provide for the institutionalization of actions. The artist emerges as a social figure, as the product of a society and the agent of political interests. From this point of view, the status of objects, the status of the “work” is not the expression of a circumscribed meaning, but the instrument of forming a subject. The opposition of theory and practice becomes obsolete. Subject and object are meaning written into actions.

Art isn't just about creating work anymore. Today, external pressuresand constraints play a large role in the artistic process and production.In recognition of this reality, the Institut für Kunstkritik held a series ofconferences in 2006 and 2007 to explore the value system that resultsfrom what they dubbed the New Spirit of Capitalism and to confronttheoretical models with ad-hoc conditions of production. Katinka Bocks reduzierte Arbeiten in den Bereichen Skulptur, Film und Installation verfolgen Spuren – sowohl historische, als auch verborgene –, die im Raum ein Spannungsfeld und für den Betrachter ungeahnte Dimensionen eröffnen. Die Wechselwirkung von Natürlichkeit und Künstlichkeit, von Prozessualem und Statischem, von Äußerem und Innerem ist Grundvehikel von Bocks Arbeiten. Wie eine Forscherin führt sie Experimente mit Naturgesetzen vor, die am Ende doch durch eine sehr einfache, amateurhafte Leichtigkeit einen ironischen Bruch offenkundig werden lassen. Über die Analyse von Raum und Prozessualem hinaus bestechen die Arbeiten von Katinka Bock durch eine sehr poetische Notation und eröffnen eigene, sinnliche Ebenen. Katinka Bock (*1976) studierte in Berlin-Weißensee und ging anschließend zu einem Aufbaustudium nach Lyon, wo sie seit letztem Jahr lehrt.
