Jan Zahradníček

    January 17, 1905 – October 7, 1960

Jan Zahradníček was a prominent 20th-century Czech poet whose work stood in stark contrast to the prevailing ideological currents of his time. He created đỉnh cao Catholic poetry that often found itself in conflict with left-wing authors. His openly anti-communist writings, particularly the monumental work 'Znamení moci' (Signs of Power), were considered among the sharpest poetic condemnations of totalitarianism. The communist regime silenced him, with his works circulated only through samizdat and abroad, making him a symbolic author of resistance.
