Il Signore degli Anelli, composto da tre romanzi pubblicati in Gran Bretagna fra il 1954 e il 1955, è uno dei massimi cicli narrativi del XX secolo. J.R.R. Tolkien, sommo studioso di letteratura inglese medievale e anglosassone, ha creato un mondo immaginario ma tutto oggettivato, all’antica maniera epica, e assolutamente verosimile. In questo primo romanzo, il lettore conosce gli Hobbit, piccoli esseri lieti, saggi e longevi, che vivono in un idillico paese agricolo. La quiete è turbata quando Frodo, convinto dallo stregone Gandalf, è costretto a partire per il paese delle tenebre, Mordor, dove dovrà gettare nelle fiamme del Monte Fato il terribile Anello del Potere, giunto nelle sue mani per una serie di incredibili circostanze. Un gruppo di Hobbit lo accompagna e strada facendo si associano Elfi, Nani, Uomini, uniti nella lotta contro il Male. 2nd ed. A collection of short essays, slightly poetic prose. Uncanny musings, somewhat surrealistic, with accurate perceptions of psychological and sensory experiences with, or sometimes philosophical musings over color, smells, bugs, plants, anxiety, existence, culture, and more. The last I heard, only 2 of the sixty some (I think) 'essays' have been translated into English. As someone else once put it, this is something like a "hidden gem." Personally, I haven't yet read anything quite like it.
