Petre Ispirescu was a Romanian gatherer of folk tales, celebrated for his remarkable talent in retelling them. He dedicated himself to collecting and publishing Romanian folklore, with his compilations of tales, riddles, and proverbs valued today for their deep insight into Romanian folk works. His publications often began in periodicals before appearing as standalone volumes, some of which have become bibliographic rarities. Ispirescu's efforts were instrumental in preserving and disseminating the richness of Romanian oral traditions.

Pohádkový příběh o princi, kterému při narození otec slíbil mládí bez stáří a život bez smrti. Když vyrostl, vydal se hledat to, kvůli čemu se narodil. Po strastiplném putování a souboji se Strakapúdkou a Štířicí dorazil do zámku, kde žili krásné princezny. Nejmladší z nich si vzala žil spokojeně svůj vysněný život bez smrti a ve věčném mládí. Jednoho dne ale zabloudil do Údolí nářku a zastesklo se mu po domově a rodině. Neuvědomil si, že mezitím uběhlo mnoho let a nikdo již nežije. Když se vrátil, našel v rozvalinách zámku už jen svou vlastní smrt, která tu na něho vytrvale čekala.
