Sarah King's childhood was marked by hardship, growing up in a crowded apartment with her alcoholic parents and numerous siblings. After moving to North Carolina at four, she faced physical and sexual abuse from those around her. Her parents temporarily left her and some siblings with relatives, only to return later and relocate the family to Chicago, where the struggle for stability continued amidst trauma and familial challenges.
