The development of the Russian case system is explored through various linguistic approaches, focusing on traditional and contemporary theories. The study examines the established six cases and the debate surrounding additional cases like vocative and partitive genitives. Three main approaches are analyzed: Bernard Comrie's distributional method, alongside those of A.A. Zaliznjak and A. N. Kolmogorov. The paper highlights the complexities in distinguishing formal and functional aspects of cases, aiming to clarify discrepancies and enhance understanding of the Russian language's structure.
