Esperanza, a young Mexican woman, sits in her childhood home on the eve of her wedding. Aware that this will be her last night in the house, she begins to sift through a large trunk filled with old photographs. Together with her mother, she embarks on a journey into both her own past and that of her family. Esperanza resolves that her life will not mirror that of her mother and the other women in her family. She dares to break free from her village, escaping the fate that awaits the women there: a life in the shadows of their husbands, for whom they sacrifice everything, often to their own detriment. However, Esperanza faces a long and arduous path ahead as she strives to liberate herself not only from the constraints of her family but also from her own inability to love.
