V detektivce Dům na úskalí z roku 1932 pátrá Poirot po strůjci série pokusů o zabití mladé majitelky zchátralé vily – tentokrát se však zdá, že narazil na soupeře přinejmenším sobě rovného. Slečna Marplová odhaluje ve Smysluplné vraždě z roku 1952 zločince na podivném anglickém sídle, kde kromě sedmi členů rodiny, potenciálních dědiců majetku, žijí dvě stovky mladých delikventů. Případ úkladné vraždy, kterou nespáchal ten, jenž za ni byl odsouzen, neřeší v příběhu nazvaném Zkouška neviny z roku 1958 sice žádný z autorčiných oblíbených detektivů, avšak sama královna zločinu o této knize prohlásila, že patří k jejím nejmilejším.
