Sami Paşazade Sezai wurde 1860 in Istanbul geboren und war der Sohn des ersten Bildungsministers des Osmanischen Reiches. Er studierte privat und arbeitete in der Evkaf Nezareti. Nach einem Aufenthalt in London kehrte er nach Istanbul zurück und veröffentlichte 1901 seinen ersten Roman „Sergüzeşt“, der als erster realistischer Roman der türkischen Literatur gilt.
