Yoko lehrt Pianospielen und arbeitet nachts in einer Bar. Sie träumt ständig von ihrem verschwundenen Liebhaber, mit dem sie eine 10-jährige Tochter hat. Er versprach ihr einst, er würde sie finden, wo immer sie sei. „Dies ist eine kleine, stille Geschichte, aber eine voller Wahnsinn. Von allen Büchern, die ich bisher geschrieben habe, halte ich dies für das gefährlichste“, sagt die Autorin Kaori Ekuni. Sie schrieb zunächst Kinderbücher, landete dann 1991 mit Kira kira hikaru einen Bestseller. 2004 erhielt sie den Naoki-Preis. Übersetzer Wolfgang Schlecht ist Professor an der Waseda Universität und hat u. a. Banana Yoshimoto ins Deutsche übertragen.
