Valentin Kataev

Valentin Kataev was a Russian and Soviet novelist and playwright who created penetrating works discussing post-revolutionary social conditions without compromising with the demands of official Soviet style. His relentless imagination, sensitivity, and originality made him one of the most distinguished Soviet writers. Kataev's satirical style, drawing from the tradition of Gogol, examined the new Soviet bureaucracy and its absurdities. In works like his exploration of the 1905 revolution from the perspective of young schoolboys, he crafted prose that contemporaries often considered akin to poetry.
