Paulo Emi lio Salles Gomes Books

Paulo Emílio Sales Gomes was a Brazilian historian, film critic, professor, essayist, and political activist. He was a central figure in the founding of the Cinemateca Brasileira, the creation of the Brasília Film Festival, and the establishment of audiovisual courses at the University of Brasília and the University of São Paulo, where he taught until the end of his life. Gomes also became a fervent advocate for Brazilian Cinema after a conversion he termed "decolonization" against foreign film culture. His advocacy was pioneering in favoring cultural policies that sustained Brazilian film production, such as state funding. Above all, his influence as a film critic and essayist inspired the directors of the Brazilian film movement Cinema Novo.
