The M.C. Tree offers a deeper understanding of St. Mother Teresa M.C.'s teachings, inspiring readers to engage in the life and work of St. Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity. Fr. Sebastian Vazhakala M.C., co-founder with St. Teresa of Calcutta of the Missionaries of Charity Brothers Contemplative, and founder of the Lay Missionaries of Charity (LMC), provides this insight. Born in Vayala, Kerala, on September 2, 1942, he joined the Missionaries of Charity Brothers in Calcutta in 1967 as part of the first group of novices and became the first ordained M.C. priest on October 23, 1971. He served closely with St. Teresa from 1967, both in Calcutta and internationally. His book, Life with Mother Teresa, published in October 2003, chronicles his thirty-year journey alongside her. Fr. Vazhakala has received several accolades, including the Campidoglio Award in 2008 and the Roman Peace Award later that year. The Missionaries of Charity Brothers Contemplative, established on March 19, 1979, operates as a Diocesan Religious Congregation in Rome since December 8, 1993. The LMC, founded on April 16, 1984, in St. Teresa's presence, is a public Association recognized by Cardinal Ugo Poletti on February 25, 1987.
